NAPEO's 2017 New York Leadership Council Forum

Jun 27, 2017
Location:

The University Club of Albany
141 Washington Ave, Albany, NY 12210

Join NAPEO's New York Leadership Council Forum at The University Club of Albany from 10:30am-2:00pm on June 27. Agenda highlights include:

Tim Sheridan of Sheridan & Associates will provide an update on the political landscape in New York, the 2017-2018 legislative session, and NAPEO efforts to educate agency regulators about the unique nature of PEO relationships and the distinction between co-employment and joint employment. He will also lead a discussion on legislation, S.6572, the first draft of which would have required a review of the impact of PEOs on the small group market. Amendments to the bill have removed that provision.

Heather MacMaster, Deputy General Counsel of the NY Workers’ Compensation Board, will discuss the new Family Paid Leave Act. The law provides up to 12 weeks of paid leave to care for a family member, bond with a new child or address a family emergency. Deductions from employees’ wages can begin July 1st of this year and leave availability begins January 1, 2018. She will also discuss the significant workers’ comp reform efforts currently underway.

Paul Mason, Director of Unemployment Insurance Adjudication and Determination, and Maura McCann, Director of Labor Standards, both of the NY Department of Labor, will give a brief update on the PEO program in NY and highlights on new DOL policies or issues for employers.
